A wide variety of leisure activities can be sampled in our area – walking, cycling, fishing, golf, clay pigeon shooting, glass sledging and walking with alpacas. Something for everyone! There is an excellent leisure centre in Hawick with a swimming pool, refurbished flume, soft play, squash and fitness centre. Also Wilton Lodge Park with an excellent new play ground for young children and a newly opened cafe. All this within a five mile radius of Denholm!
The Scottish Borders offers many opportunities for walkers – from the long distance St Cuthberts Way to the many walks through small quiet roadways, along riverbanks and in the local forests. From the house you can walk to the summit of Ruberslaw (1392ft) and take in the wonderful view of Teviotdale or take a leisurely stroll along the banks of the River Teviot. Denholm is on the Jedburgh to Hawick section of the Borders Abbeys Way circular walking route.
Just over a mile from Denholm is the 18 hole Minto Golf Course. This parkland course has a superb clubhouse where you can get a meal from breakfast til dinnertime. Whatever your standard of golf this course is well worth a visit. The club has received many awards for its friendly welcome and is also a member of “The Freedom of the Fairways” golf scheme promoted by VisitScotland Borders. We also have the Rule Valley Simulated Game where you can go clay pigeon shooting a few miles from Denholm on the A698 towards Jedburgh.
